There are a lot of great game related journal entries that have been written by the cast of characters at LCG. The trick is making sure that these great stories don't become buried in everyone's blogs to never be seen again. So the reason for this article is to explain how to associate your journal entries to the appropriate game, in such a way that when someone is reading the game, they can cycle through both the game moves and the side stories in a fluid fashion.
1. After you have created your side story (joint post, blue book, whatever you call it), click back into it from the front page or your 'my blog' link.
2. Click on the 'Outline' tab at the top of your story, this is located in the same row as the view and edit tabs.
3. Once you're in the 'Outline' screen, click on the 'Parent' dropbox and select the relevant game move that your story is associated with. This will add it as a story under that 'Game', 'Chapter', and if necessary 'Sub Plot'.
4. Each Journal Entry added this way is sorted first by 'weight' and then alphabetically. So if there are only one or two journal entries under a Chapter, or the sequence in which they take place doesn't matter then you will be fine stopping at this step.
However, if there are several stories posted, under a game Chapter, and they span over many days or weeks, it is important that they have a chronological assignment as well. This will make it so that when a reader is reading the story, they will be able to click through all of the side posts in order of importance. The way to do this is to add a 'Weight' to your piece.
5. To add 'Weight', click on the 'Weight' drop down box and assign it a number. 1 - happens first, 2- happens second, and so on and so forth. The negative numbers can be used to move it backwards if they happen on the same day, but don't automatically settle in the right place alphabetically.
6. Submit the changes and then look over to the left menu bar to verify that your story is falling in the right spot under your 'Game'. If not, play with the weight...it might take a bit to get used to, but in the end it makes it worth it.
7. Last but not least, it's always helpful to add your Game move before your story title.
(Originally Avrio Aerospace) was founded by Thomas Morgan 15 years ago. It made an early name for itself with its design improvements on the Space Shuttle and several military helicopter projects. Today it is best known for designing weapons system, personal protection and armor, and transportation systems for Aegis. Their biggest project to date is the building of TheMountain prison facility near Denver.

This game will deal with the darker side of life, subjects such as drugs, child/spousal abuse, prostitution, pornography and other dismal scenes will come into play. Some themes that players might find touchy include sexual and religious perversions as well as unsavory language. For the most part this will be a rated NC-17 game, but side fiction pieces may well go beyond that, but will not be posted to the main game file. If this type of dark subject matter is offensive to you, as a reader, please don't apply to this game. How Dark?
Campaign Description The Conquistadors are a team of vigilantes that are sponsored by DiSantiagoPharmaceuticals.
The DiSantiagoFamily is a close knit family, whose name has long been enshrouded in power, money and mystery. They are one of the oldest families on the West Coast, and have been rumored to be involved in everything from organized crime to slave trafficking. Despite the rumors though, the family has remained one of the top philanthropical forces in the country, giving both locally and internationally to causes both well known and covert in nature. While their name is whispered in certain circles dripping with fear and dread, their money and influence has thus far kept their official standing among the most well respected in the country.
At the start of this campaign, the ~DiSantiago's have just completed building another branch of DiSantiagoPharmaceuticals. Revitalizing a poor section of Hudson City, with it's state of the art facility. This campaign will explore the lives of the player characters, how they interact with the local crime scene, established heroes & vigilantes, and the trusts bestowed upon them by the family that hired them.
This campaign will provide the opportunity for some combat, however primary focus will be on character development. Player's complications and histories will be integrated heavily into the game, so don't put anything in your history that you won't have an element of fun with in the game. All NPCs need a description so that I can integrate them into game play in an effort to add to the realism. While this is a game, primary emphasis will be on the story and the writing of the story.
Important of the Player Characters On a global scale, the player characters are somewhat important. While they won't likely be called to act on behalf of a Global Crisis, the DiSantiagoFamily has substantial influence on a global level. On a local level, the characters are very important.
World Description The year is 2009. This campaign will be sharing a world with the current game called Guardians that is currently active at www.lostcoastgaming.com. This game takes places in a super-hero version of our own world, many elements from the Champions Universe have been lifted. Most important to note for this game is that Hudson City is located on the West Coast.
The Story So Far TheConquistadors are funded by their founders, DiSantiagoPharmaceuticals. They are paid a handsome salary to keep the streets of HudsonCity safe from criminals. The DiSantiagoFamily decided on HudsonCity for the location of their newest state of the art medical facility. The ~DiSantiago’s believed the city held a lot of promise and has committed themselves to bettering the city with new jobs and by making the streets safer. As usual naysayers were quick to jump on the lofty promises made by the egocentric family, but as usual, the ~DiSantiagos put their money where there mouth was and began the process of assembling a team of city protectors. While the Super Team was being touted for the safety of the city, it would also allow the pharmeceutical company to pursue their research with less risk.
Local Relations The public has mixed feelings about the Conquistadors. There are some people who question the purity of the motives of the ~DiSantiago family, wondering if there isn’t some more nefarious reason for the formation of the group. In the end, the local relations will be largely decided during game play. As of now the locals are embracing the idea of having real heroes of their very own. The citizens of HudsonCity want heroes that will really care, that will jump out of the night sky and save their women and children from the criminal elements that haunt the night.
The local law enforcement agencies, surprisingly enough seem eager to cooperate with the Conquistadors. While the local heroes and vigilantes all hold their own opinions on the newly founded vigilante team. Opportunities will present themselves to build relationships and ties with NPCs and Player Characters in any other games hosted in this world.
Campaign Tone
Morality Characters should support justice and fight crime, but are generally vigilantes who operate outside of the law. The landscape they operate in is all shades of gray. Sometimes there will be the obvious good guys, but for the most part NPCs will range in color and motivations.
Realism The standard for realism in this game is going to be the "Die Hard" movies, starring Bruce Willis. Getting shot hurts. Getting hit hurts. Being thrown through a plate glass window, falling twenty-two stories, and landing on a police car really, really hurts a lot. But heroes find a way to keep going, even when drastically injured.
However, there are limits. Be aware of the limits or your character will die. You have been warned. How you role-play the character will do a great deal to determine the realism of the game, so please put some soul into your characters.
Outlook This campaign will be fairly dark. Not only will the subject matter often focus on unpleasant things, but sometimes the characters will not be able to stop things in time. The players will not be without victories, the Family has strong connections that will aid their team in finding out about criminal activity that will sometime border on the suspicious, to outside observers.
Seriousness Humor in this game depends on character reaction to the situation. The scenarios and story lines are going to be so serious as to occasionally be downright grim, with little room for humorous or slapstick situations. However, creative players will find a way to interject humor into the appropriate situations.
Continuity The game will be entirely serial. Player actions in one scenario will have effects on later scenarios, and continuity will be enforced. Adventures will move linearly through time, bad guys will remember who you are and what you did to them, and the press will print your exploits for the world to see.

GettingStarted
Campaign Page
//Gods Among Men// is the delusion that most ~DiSantiagos are thought to suffer, and even if they didn't their reputation could not lose that defining mark. With very few exceptions, they are bold and beautiful, blessed with money, power and charisma and a reputation that precedes them where ever they go. Their name alone is enough to gain them entrance to any gala or special event, they are at the pinnacle of high society, and they own it.
Whispered rumors dance through the marbled halls of high society events, but rarely is their ever a man or woman bold enough to confront a ~DiSantiago with an unkept secret. It is the dark sedans that follow them that fuel the wagging tongues, federal agents that have long ago given up any pretense at hiding, waiting for them to make a mistake. Some call them the untouchables, their power and influence reach so far into the pocketbooks and affairs of the ruling elite, that they have yet to be found guilty of any significant crimes. On the rare occasion the family seems trapped, there is a convenient sacrificial lamb, a ~DiSantiago of little use that will willingly take the fall for the betterment of the dynasty.
It's the Generation X and Millennial Generation of ~DiSantiagos that flirt with the limelight now, while they pay the price for their elder's alleged sins. But even among this dashing crew of cousins, some of them know the truth, some of them have been chosen to carry on the family business. The others, for the most part, wallow in their extravagant life and try to understand why the blood that pumps through their veins beg for them to seek endlessly for something they can never seem to find. Why the silver platter and everything that they have is never enough to satiate the burning lust that they have for life, and often times sin.

Description:
Ricardo diSantiago (dead): Moved to Hudson City from Calama, Chile in 1918 to seek a better future. He started work at Green’s Pharmacy. During Prohibition, he made inroads with the Morelli family mafia – helping to import and distribute illegal whiskey from the back of the pharmacy. After Prohibition, the owner (James Green) died under mysterious circumstances and Ricardo bought the pharmacy; changing its name to ~DiSantiago Pharmacy. Ricardo died at the age of 74. At the time of his death, there were seven ~DiSantiago Pharmacies across the greater Hudson City area.
He was survived by his wife: Maria; his sons Leon, Fausto and Santo; and daughters Ella, Katia and Pedra.
Maria diSantiago (dead): Wife of Ricardo. Died in 1976. (see children above)
Leon diSantiago (dead): Eldest child of Ricardo and Maria, Leon took over the family business when his father retired. Leon was a hard businessman; and deepened the families ties with the City’s organized criminals. He helped his father grow the business city-wide and took over when Ricardo retired. However, his reign as President of DP lasted until his untimely murder (a crime that remains unsolved). Ricardo returned to the head of the company until his death in 1974.
Leon married Louisa Navare and they had three children: Paulo, Marco and Ester.
Ella diSantiago (dead): Eldest daughter of Ricardo and Maria. Died at the age of 14 from Polio.
Katia diSantiago Miller (dead): Katia (Katie) married into old Hudson City money when she married Doctor Justin Miller. It was long rumored that Katie’s marriage was arranged to cement the bonds between the diSantiagos and the Morelli family (Jacob Miller was the lawyer to the Morelli family and considered an advisor (or Consigliore) to the family). Katia was always a strong woman and helped push the Pharmacy into drug research. She was on the board of directors until her death in 1981.
Katia diSantiago Miller was survived by her husband: Justin and their children: Ruth and David.
Dr. Justin Miller (dead): Justin married into the family and was the first chief of research for diSantiago Pharmaceuticals. He died in 1979.
Fausto diSantiago (Only Surviving ~DiSantiago from this Generation): The fourth child of Ricardo and Maria, Fausto wasn’t the smartest or quickest of all their children, but he was the most ruthless. Fausto left home at an early age and joined a gang that worked protection rackets on the docks and rail yards. He was arrested three times before he turned 21. He made his own mark on the Morelli family and was soon accepted as one of their associates on the merits of his own work.
When his father died, he took control of the family business. Making enemies of Katie and Santo in the process. His time at the head of the company brought ties closer to organized crime and made DP a target for Federal investigation. When the dust had cleared, DP lost face and was forced to pay huge fines. Fausto resigned in disgrace and removed himself from the spotlight.
He was survived by his wife: Ginger Harland, and their children Angelo, Javier and Camila.
Back to DiSantiagoFamily
Friend of the Family (Family referring to the ~DiSantiago Family)
Friend of the Family (FoF)
A friend of the family would have a certain loyalty (level optional) to the family, owe them a favor or two at minimum for a gift of some sort that has been bestowed upon them (they like to get 'em young). Other than that, character creation wise, it would be the same.
The GM would need to ping back and forth with someone interested in being a FoF and find an intriguing way to tie them into one or two of the Family Members. Someone in this position would likely know a secret or two about the family or operations and might be more inclined to have a morality struggle as the game unfolds.
Examples of this are endless, but here are a couple ideas.
Family helps a promising intern through financial troubles or a difficult time. The more intense/dangerous the better, because it would go towards building the loyalty.
Family helps employer through a difficult time with their family, and ends up taking the family in on a financial level in return for favors. This could be recent or span for a generation or more.

Everyone has a journal/blog and you can put whatever you want into it. This is where I like to see the interludes posted that take place outside of the game file.
I will give additional experience for pieces that are written outside of the game file. The pieces can be solo or joint posts between more than one player. I am happy to open a child page for anyone wanting to do their writing on the main site, but often times people just prefer pinging them back and forth over email, so that they can compile and edit/add before posting the finished piece.
For any pieces done over email and then compiled, I ask that you put them into your journal, using 'TCQ:' in front of your title.
(example: TCQ: When Innocence is Lost)
You can add an entry to your journal by clicking on it under the create content section on the left hand tool bar. Just copy and paste your compiled document into the journal and hit preview/submit. Your story will be front paged and all of the players will see it and be able to read it.
Another very useful aspect of this, is that you can assign it to our game using the book outline tab in your journaled piece. This will allow you to associate it with the game file that it follows, so that when someone is reading the story from the beginning to end, they will read your interlude in the right place.
See Assigning Journal Entries for more specific directions on this, or ask the GM to do it for you.

Description: The oldest child of the ~DiSantiago clan, she is approaching sixty years of age. Never was a woman more vain and arrogant in her day, and who was unable to cope with her waning years. She desperately clings to her youth, taking every effort to restore her beauty to what it once was.
Her interests in family affairs are limited, extending only so far as what directly concerns her, being that of social status. She bitterly hates most people and considers everyone beneath her. Her contempt and anger at society were only increased when her husband, Emilo, of 34 years died, ending a long reign as head of the family’s financial investments. If he was the only man that ever loved her, she knew it and took his death quite difficult.
These agents are encased in heavy armor. They are slow moving but pack a powerful punch. Their armor is more bulky than power armor, it does not have the flexibility or the firepower of power armor. But compared to a normal agent (or policeman), it is a heavy fire platform. Hercules Agents are deployed in teams of three and almost always with support from the Operations Division. Each Hercules can operate at full combat tempo for about 10 minutes before re-charging. They can operate for about 2 hours in standard mode before re-charging.
Primary weapons systems:
- Force Lance: A beam of coherent energy sustained for a half-second. The beam does not burn, but acts as a long range "punch". The Force Lance is located on the chest of the Hercules Armor.
- Twin Linked Pulse Cannons: Multiple beams of energy fill the air. Not powerful enough to burn, the Pulse Cannons disrupt the electrical functions of the body causing pain. Pulse Cannons are mounted on each arm.
Secondary weapons systems:
- Capture Foam: Each Hercules unit carries three cannisters of the expanding and fast hardening foam. They are launched from a unit on the armors left shoulder.
Movement systems:
- Jump Jets: The Hercules unit can jump distances of 100 feet. They must land before they can take off again. The Jump Jets are located in the boots of the unit. They also have a stabilizing fin across the back shoulder. While jumping, they cannot use their Force Lance.

It involves using a chemical cocktail (varying from subject to subject) to keep the subject in an induced coma for the length of their sentence. Hot Sleep has been called Cruel and Unusual Punishment - but the Supreme Court ruled that it was allowable in the interest of public safety when "other means were incapable of keeping the subject incarcerated."
The following is an excerpt from the original Conquistador campaign. Things won't always be this dark, and some things may exceed it a bit...but it's a good reference for whether the game might be to your liking. The following was written by ~JShowell & Koslov (Raphael). ~JShowell will be the AGM for this game.
======================
How did he get back here?
The corridor was exactly as he remembered it; long and dark, with utility pipes jutting from the walls like the exposed ribs of some gigantic beast. The sulfurous phosphorescent glow blinked rapidly at him from the failing fixtures in the ceiling spaced intermittently along the length of the passage.
He glanced around him. He held a gun, but it wasn't his. He knew where he was; back there again. He knew what was at the end of the tunnel.
As much as he knew she would be there, he hoped this time she wouldn't.
He forced his feet to move, stepping slowly down the hall. He crept with great care, staying close to the walls, stepping gingerly over pipes. The floor was a metal grated catwalk that ran the length of the service chamber. At the back there would be a door, short and made of cold, unforgiving steel. There would be a small window in it, but it was covered brackish green with grime.
He reached the door without incident. The soft mechanical hum that always permeated the bowels of the factory was the only sound. His breathing came in deep, rapid puffs, as if he was over-exerted. His heart thudded dully in his chest as he reached for the handle.
He pushed. It wasn't locked. It hadn't been then either. Like he didn't care if someone just walked in. Like he had nothing in the world to hide.
Not even her.
The room was small but nearly empty, making it seem just slightly more spacious than it was. A single bare bulb hung from the ceiling by its wires, flicking just as sporadically as the florescents in the hall, but not nearly as bright. It cast the room in a dim evil glow, allowing the shadows to lurk unchecked in the corners and illuminating only splotched of the faded and peeling green paint. The smell was rancid, like urine and rotting flesh.
It wasn't a surprise that his eyes didn't rest on her immediately. The distraction of the bulb burning into his eyes and the deep shadows, despite the bareness of the room, had both crowded his senses. He wasn't prepared to find her. Not this way.
But she was huddled there. A shell of her former beauty, she was pale and ghastly, her fine skin hung loosely from her thinning form, taking on a sickly bluish caste. Her eyes stared at the floor, a thin trickle of blood ran from down her cheek to drip from her chin. Her lips were purple.
Chains, blood red with rust, bound her there, slung around a pipe and wrapped about her arms, pinning them behind her to the floor. Her legs were curled up to her chest, the old hospital gown she wore was stained yellow and red from weeks of this position. Her nails were gone, or torn to ragged stumps, leaving her fingertips red and raw.
She was motionless. He knew she was gone. Just as she'd been found the first time. The memory of it burned into his mind like a branding iron; painfully hot and fresh.
She stirred so slightly that he thought it was his imagination. A lump of hope leapt into his throat and his eyes grew wide. He stared as her eyes twitched, and then clouded red with blood.
Her head whipped up, red, bloody eyes staring through him with intense hatred. They exploded from their sockets, gushing a fountain of crimson down her cheeks and flooding her thin gown.
She screamed, her open mouth revealing teeth missing and broken. The shriek pierced the room, shattering the ominous silence like a brick through old stained glass, it's tiny glittering shards fleeing violently in the wake.
Raphael raised hands that weren't his to ears of the same person, trying to shield the horrible high-pitched wail. It permeated his skull, tearing at his brain. He could feel it in him. Her weeks of horror coming to a tumultuous peak in one high-pitched scream. It deafened him to all else, driving him to his knees.
He woke suddenly, sitting upright in a mess of sweat-soaked sheets, gasping for air.
"Inez." Unbidden, the name escaped his lips. No one should ever have to die like that. It was probably best that he had not seen her body before he killed Oliver.
Raphael tasted the metallic taste of blood in his mouth, he had bit his lip during his nightmare. He wiped the blood off with his right hand and looked it his red stained fingertip before rubbing the blood away. If only it all washed away so easily.
He looked at his alarm clock -- and it was way too late to be up. Still, he knew that he was done with sleep for a while. He pulled on a pair of sweat pants and a teal Mercury Morris jersey and walked out of his room. There was always someone up and moving around the Cathedral -- and he walked toward the kitchen, thinking that a pot of coffee would make everything better.
What kind of characters are you expecting to be submitted to this campaign?
First and foremost, the GM wants to see a character that you have passion for. The leash on morality is loose in this campaign as is the freedom to explore a more quirky true Hero. Place the normal restrictions aside and try to imagine the character you've always wanted to bring to life, and be ready to do so with energy. The perfect candidate would be excited about writing both in the game and outside of the game with a series of side fiction pieces to help grow their character.
The player characters in this campaign will be a combination of DiSantiagoFamily members, Friend of the Family, and genuine heroes that won a position through an application and try out process. The GM will not impose a great deal of morality on the player characters, however she will expect the players to act in all things within the boundaries of the character she accepted. The GM will start the campaign with a fairly even amount of ~DiSantiago representatives and what she calls, True hearts. True hearts are those that were chosen at the try outs for their powers and abilities, for the most part these individuals should have a strong desire to do good for their fellow man.
If you decide that you would like to play a member of the DiSantiagoFamily or a Friend of the Family, please contact the GM with your wish before making the character. To maintain the balance the GM will need to approve a family oriented concept. While the game will be a mix of family members and true heroes, the GM will need to play a part in creating a family member. For the initial application process the GM anticipates the ~DiSantiago roles filling up quickly and is encouraging non-family oriented concepts.
Please make sure to give a very detailed description of your power concept, appearance and personality. The GM would appreciate character submissions not to exceed 6 pages in length using the approved format, unless the character has one hell of an interesting story to tell. On the other side of the scale, please make your backgrounds detailed enough to make the character three-dimensional.
The primary struggle that will be encountered early on, may very well, have characters choosing sides on how the story and campaign will unfold. Character politics will likely be a huge portion of this story and rather than guide the actions with a leash, the GM will sit back and allow the players to decide the eventual path of the campaign.
The True Heroes will have an opportunity to be heroic and The self centric characters will have the opportunity to pursue greed and seedy pleasures at the expense of others. All actions will have a possible reaction, so if your characters get in over their head, remember who put them there. The GM will not make many exceptions for remorseful actions. Also all members of the Conquistadors will be monitored by both Aegis and the DiSantiagoFamily, any attempts at devious behavior may well be rooted out.
It should be noted that the GM will allow for behind the scenes interactions to help with any political maneuvering within the family or team. The GM will not interfere with player character actions, but other player characters from this campaign or any other active campaign, are free to act upon them if they are discovered. Depending on the character submissions and the loyalties built within the game, the Conquistadors may eventually become an independent vigilante team or segregate completely into two different factions.
Any Advice?
- Don't submit a character that looks like you're abusing the system.
- Don't submit a character that has put little thought into background or skills.
- Great Resource for Disadvantages. http://lostcoastgaming.com/files/masterlists.htm
- The GM really likes to integrate disadvantages into the game. Please make them interesting.
- The Conquistadors are a public front for DiSantiagoPharmaceuticals. The Family will be looking for heroes that make an impression and will project a good image. High comeliness and presence scores along with an accompanying personality to suit them, would be helpful in the interview process.
- Imagine that you are submitting two characters. Your Heroic Persona and your Secret identity. I want fully realized concepts on both fronts, not in written submission form, but just KNOW the man behind the mask as well as you know your hero.
- When submitting a character during the initial application process or later for lurker status, please send in only a character background for the initial contact. If the background is approved the GM will ask you for a character sheet.
Building a Character for The Conquistadors
The most important thing to keep in mind about characters for the Conquistador campaign is the flavor of the campaign. What would fit in best are heroes with tightly themed and somewhat limited powers who are willing to skirt the edges of the law to get the job done. In other words, while your character might bend or break the law in pursuit of justice, he or she is not a wild killing machine whose targets are anyone breaking the law. They shouldn't be the "shoot first, ask questions later" kind of hero.
All Conquistadors characters follow the following guidelines:
• Player characters cannot have any power or talent that makes them permanently immune to conventional weapons.
• Player characters cannot have any power or talent that makes it difficult for the GM to run a mystery story.
• Starting Points: 150
• Maximum Total Points: 300
• Maximum Points From One Category of Disadvantage: 75
• Characters should have a minimum Comeliness of 14
• Characters must purchase the ConquistadorPackage (Disadvantages in this package will NOT count towards total disads.)
• Family Members must purchase the DiSantiagoPackage
• In addition to the Conquistador Package, players may take a professional package OR the Family Package and have it not count towards total Disads. Any additional packages are allowed but the Disads WILL count towards the Disads Total.
• Please get approval to submit a Family Member or Friend of the Family
• The team mentalist will be played by an NPC, so any mentalist entries should be very specialized, the spot for the traditional mentalist is taken, feel free to email the GM before deciding to submit a mentalist.
• The GM will not be accepting AI’s, Intelligent Animals, Aliens, Mages, Cyborgs, and it is suggested to run Psionic Manifestations by the GM before spending a great deal of time on them. The Conquistador’s are also a publicity tool of the ~DiSantiago family and they have chosen their members with looks and flair in mind.

How to Submit a Character
Is This Game for Me
1. You will need an account for Lost Coast Gaming. Register for an account on the main site and it will automatically sign you up for a forum account, using the same user name and password. Follow this link to set up your account. http://lostcoastgaming.com/user/register?destination=
2. Take a deep breath and tell yourself that it looks really hard, but it's really not hard.
Locate these three items; a) the tool bar across the top, b) the tool bar to the left, c) the tool bar to the right. The top tool bar will be convenient for access to the Games, Image Galleries and the link to the Forum. The left hand tool bar has the game files/wikis, and lots of links that you may grow to use, but that are not pertinent to playing in this game. What you do need from this left tool bar is the create content section. The right hand toolbar is the most important for quick fix game access. The first section there is a game update section. It will show you when the file was updated last and if it has been updated since the last time you clicked on it, it will show new or updated in red next to the file.
3. When you see TCQ in the game update section on the right hand tool bar, click on it and it will take you to our current game file. Think of this file as a living breathing compile. Everyone can read it, but only one person can edit it at a time. This method keeps things more realistic and in story format. Instead of four people replying to the same NPC's question and the GM struggling to compile it later into some fluid story that has somehow spawned multiple conversation threads from the same original question. The ~PCs work collaboratively, using dialogue, actions and thoughts to respond in a logical manner within the confines of a story.
No. Everyone can't respond to every question and every action. It is different from traditional ~PBEMs in that way...but this way makes a story that is believable and doesn't spawn multiple story arcs that take away from the realism of the story. This method requires respect for your fellow gamers in relation to game pacing and requires you to take an active interest as the story as a whole, making efforts to keep it believable and fun for all that are involved.
4. OK. Now you're in the TCQ file and you've read it and are ready to reply. Ask yourself a couple of questions before you start your reply. Does my character have something valuable to add in this spot, through thoughts, actions, dialogue, etc.? Is it realistic for my action to happen at this point in the story? If the answers are yes, then click on the edit tab directly above the game file.
Go to the place in the file where you want to input your character's response and add it, remember to code the first line or two with whatever your chosen color is. Feel free to input character reactions before, after, and throughout the game file. Just because someone beat you to replying, won't negate your ability to have a reaction that is valuable to the story. I only ask that each addition that you make enhances the story and doesn't detract from what is already written. When you are done, hit preview to make sure it is how you want it and then click submit. You will then see that the file is updated on the right hand tool bar again.
5. Frustrations? There are times that you may get frustrated. Here are some possible issues that you may run into and advice if I have any on how to deal with them.
My eyes hurt! There is too much color. - As the GM, I will remove the old color tags, however, in order for people to see what was new, I need to wait for everyone to see the additions before removing the color tags. If you are having trouble seeing what is new, click on the revisions tab above the file, this will show you who edited the document last and when they did it. This will show you what character/color to look for new things from.
How can I make sure people see what I've added? - If you add something new way up in the file, color your whole entry, or bold color your whole entry, and make an ooc note at the bottom to let people know that you added something up high. Another option is Deleting your character's old color codes if you're sure everyone has seen your old, then indicating in an ooc note that all of your character's color is new.
The file is locked! - It can be frustrating when you can't get into a file. The reason a file locks is because someone is either editing, or started to edit it and didn't submit or leave the file properly. In order to leave a file properly you either need to submit or click from the edit tab to the view tab before navigating away from the file. If the file seems to be locked by a player for too long or that player isn't on the site any more, give one of the admins a holler and we can unlock the file for you.
I lost my move!!! - Sometimes, VERY RARELY, people will edit a file at the same time, and the last one to click submit will find that they can't submit it. This can rarely happen because there is a very small window between when someone checks out a file and it locks behind them. In MOST cases when this happens, click your back arrow on your browser and you will be able to recover your data. Another sure fire way to avoid this problem, but admittedly not convenient, is to use a text editor/word/email/notepad/whatever to write your move and then paste it into the game file.
Pacing. - Sometimes the game will move too fast for some of us and too slow for others. This is the nature of the game. With time, I will find our pace, and figure out what to do, whether it's NPC those that can't post often enough, or splitting the story arcs to accommodate similarly paced gamers. This will be an expected frustration for all of us and we'll work together to find a happy medium.
Player Courtesy. - Sometimes, people will add things into a file before your text that might frustrate you. Make you feel like it negates what your character already did or said, or make the story as a whole confusing. This is a touchy topic. If it's something simple, and you can move that players line of text to a different spot in the story, where it makes sense and betters flow, without compromising the addition, move it. Sometimes this happens because people just don't know where to put it, or feel uncomfortable adding to an existing paragraph. Often times it is just an oops.
As the GM, I will be monitoring the file closely, and moving things around in a way that makes the story feel right to me. Sometimes, entire chapters may go by where I don't need to move much of anything. IF I miss something, which I'm notorious for doing, send me an email or PM, tell me your feelings and I'll remedy the situation. I may not remedy it in your favor, but I'll make a determination. Player Courtesy will be closely monitored, and we will all extend each other the courtesy to believe that anything that upsets us was an unintentional slight. Then we will resolve it in the best interest of the story.
6. The Forum - http://lostcoastgaming.com/forum/index.php?board=48.0 will take you directly to our Conquistador Forum. I will have an out of character section there, player request hotline, game updates, and whatever else that isn't story related that needs to be communicated to the players. Try to check the forum out when you're done reading or editing a file to see if there is anything that might require your attention. The Forum also has PM capabilities and can be used to communicate between GM and Players. I'm also happy to communicate via email, but keep an eye out when you're on the forum to see if you have any ~PMs from other players.

Please send completed character background in the approved format to china.pittenger@gmail.com. I would prefer the character background in Word, but will accept anything that I can read.
A character sheet is not necessary during the selection process, but if you make one, go ahead and send it along. I will accept Hero Designer, Word, html or rtf.
Please include the following in the body of the email.
Player Name
Character Name
~ArchType
And whether you are applying for a place as a ~DiSantiago, Friend of the Family, or True Hero.
I intend on selecting 8 players for the campaign, with the emphasis on intend. Based on overall submissions appeal, I may select more or less, but I will try to keep it at 8. Of these, I will accept no more than 3 ~DiSantiago family members. You may submit multiple characters for consideration if you're inspired to do so.
I will be accepting several alternates if there is enough interest. I won't hesitate to replace a chosen player with an alternate if we have trouble during the character sheet process. And if these alternates want to keep up with the story, they'll get first dibs if a place becomes available.

Who'sWho
This campaign will be using some of the background information in the Hudson City Dark Champions Book. If you are familiar with this setting there is a few huge things that I have changed. First, this will be a West Coast City and not located on the East Coat. Secondly, while this will be a dark Super Hero campaign, it won't be Dark Champions as written, there will be super heroes and not just the typical street level heroes.
Hudson City: Hudson City, also known as Pearl City, is a thriving metropolis of over 6 million people. This city has one of the highest crime rates in the nation and has had several scandals revolving around their local government and the police department. In addition to crime on the streets and in the government, there is a substantial problem with the city's infrastructure. Million of dollars are needed to bring the roads, bridges, public transportation and older buildings up to safety code.

- The campaign may contain violence, adult themes, religion and language. In the event any of these offend you, please DO NOT accept a position in this game.
- This game will put writing an enjoyable story before game mechanics. Dice will be rolled and combat will be had, but at all times the quality of the character writing should shine through and above the game mechanics. As each chapter closes, the fact that it is a game should be invisible to a reader.
- There will be a LOT of behind the scenes activity in this game in order to add to the intrigue. It will be imperative that a player is able to actively participate in making sure that they only use in character knowledge. It will take commitment to treat each of the character's on the basis of what a player's character knows, and not become overly intuitive when it comes to getting a 'feeling' about the other characters.
- Always remember that anything said in character by an NPC or PC is strictly fiction, it in no way reflects the GM's or fellow Player's real life opinion of you. A player should never become defensive or angry…whereas a player's character is encouraged to express both their thoughts and feelings. If this is something you can't handle, this game isn't for you. You may become emotional about your character and their reactions, but don't become emotional at any time with a fellow player or GM.
- This game will be hosted at Lost Coast Gaming, www.lostcoastgaming.com. There may be a small learning curve required to become accustomed to posting via this collaborative story format. Please trust me, as a long time advocate of play by email games, this is a manageable and preferable method if you have the ten minutes to dedicate to coming up to speed on the medium.

An NC-17 rated motion picture is one that, in the view of the Rating Board, most parents would consider patently too adult for their children 17 and under. No children will be admitted. NC-17 does not mean “obscene” or “pornographic” in the common or legal meaning of those words, and should not be construed as a negative judgment in any sense. The rating simply signals that the content is appropriate only for an adult audience. An NC-17 rating can be based on violence, sex, aberrational behavior, drug abuse or any other element that most parents would consider too strong and therefore off-limits for viewing by their children.
Non Player Characters - Usually played by the GM.
This information is taken from the Hudson City Neighborhood Reference Guide, available for free download.
ARDMORE
Ardmore’s a mostly residential neighborhood over on the Northside, sort of wedged in between Little Italy, Guilford, and Worthington. It’s not a very large area, but many Hudsonites think of it as one of the most pleasant, safest places in the city. Over the past couple of decades it’s slowly transformed from a neighborhood of mostly families to one where a lot of young professionals live.
BANKHURST
A long strip of the Northside immediately to the east of ~LeMastre Park, Bankhurst is what many Hudsonites refer to as “downtown.” It’s a neighborhood of skyscrapers, offi ce buildings, banks, and multi-million-dollar deals. Primarily a commercial area, it does have some high-rise luxury apartment and condominium buildings for the extremely wealthy, and even a few high-class brownstones in the Westhurst district.
Some of the important areas of Bankhurst include: Dawnlea Street (Hudson City’s equivalent to Wall Street); and the Lowdown (Lower Downtown). Many of Hudson City’s best-known landmarks, such as the Berkely Commercial Center and Sports Metroplex, the Stewart Regency Hotel,
the Hudson City Stock Exchange, and the Stailey Towers can be found in Bankhurst.
BAYSIDE
Th is coastal Northside neighborhood occupies the “bulge” north of Owl Bay. Traditionally a center of shipping and manufacturing, it remains a mostly industrial neighborhood today, though a few loft apartments and other residential developments creep in from time to time. Th e Mafi a, primarily the Marcelli family, is thought to dominate a lot of the industry in Bayside, though the area has only a moderate rate of street crime. The Marwich neighborhood that sort of straddles Bayside and Bankhurst is more upscale and more residential.
BLACKBRIDGE
Th is once mostly residential Northside neighborhood of brownstones, apartment buildings, and even a few areas of detached housing has seen a
signifi cant increase in commercial development in recent decades. North of ~LeMastre Park and immediately west of the northern part of Bankhurst, it’s an ideal location for businesses that want to be “close to the action” but avoid the high rents of the downtown area, and a great place for professionals who value a short commute to live. The Hudson City Convention Center and Jason Devon Memorial Coliseum are both located here. It’s considered a relatively safe neighborhood; the vigilante Dark-Angel has oft en been seen patrolling there.
CHINATOWN
Located in the northwest corner of the Southside, Chinatown is home to most of Hudson City’s Asian population. Consisting of four distinct subneighborhoods defined by ethnicity — Chinatown proper, Little Tokyo, Koreatown, and Little Saigon — it’s a bustling place that mixes commercial and residential buildings. Various Asian criminal groups, such as the tongs and the yakuza, dominate the underworld here.
CROWN POINT
Crown Point is a Southside neighborhood that used to be mostly industrial, but since World War II many parts of the neighborhood (particularly the parts not adjoining the river) have become more residential. In recent years it’s seen a signifi cant infl ux of immigrants from the Near East, Southeast Asia, Africa, and elsewhere, making it one of the most diverse parts of the city.
One part, Ashwood, is the center of Hudson City’s gay and lesbian community. Some of the area’s other attractions include the Herodome (where
the Hudson City Heroes play baseball), Mural Street, and the Museum of World Art.
EASTWOOD
The northwesternmost neighborhood in Hudson City is a mix of residential and industrial, and has a not-undeserved reputation for being a sort of rough and dangerous place — though a few areas, such as Eastdale (which borders on Highlands) and Vidersea (home to a large community
of Low Countries, Eastern European, and Russian immigrants), are nicer and more picturesque. The relatively new Th ree Lakes Mall has helped to
improve the neighborhood (though not as much as people hoped), and the Vidersea Boardwalk remains a famed attraction.
ELMVIEW
Th is working-class residential and industrial neighborhood occupies most of the eastern part of the Southside. It’s got a high crime rate, thanks in
part to its proximity to neighborhoods like North Elmview, Latin City, and Forsyth. Most Northsiders think of it as a dangerous place and rarely venture there; people who grew up there oft en seem to retain a rough aff ection for its charms even if they’ve moved away.
FORSYTH
Located roughly in the center of the Southside, Forsyth is primarily a residential neighborhood, though a few businesses make their homes there as well. Despite being the location of Hudson City College, for the most part it’s a rough, dangerous neighborhood with a high crime rate. The presence of Boxtown, a squatters’ community of homeless people beneath the intersection of S. Truman Boulevard and the South Expressway, doesn’t exactly improve matters.
FREETOWN
Considered by many people the worst, most dangerous area in Hudson City, Freetown began as a shantytown for freed black slaves who migrated
north aft er the Civil War. It remains almost entirely black today. Th ough a few of its neighborhoods, such as Wister Park and Greenbriar, aren’t too bad, the other parts more than make up for that. The most squalid and dangerous neighborhood in Freetown is the Numbers, where most of the residences consist of housing projects and the people live in fear of murderous street gangs like the Nubians and the Warriors.
GADSDEN
A mostly middle-class residential neighborhood with a few lower-class areas, Gadsden occupies the center of the Northside coast, around the
area of the Gadsden Cliffs. It has a moderate crime rate; no one group or gang seems to dominate. That may have something to do with the fact that it’s home to Longview Correctional Center (the city’s massive jail complex) and Juvenile Offenders Correctional Hall. To balance those rather depressing places, the neighborhood boasts such attractions as the lovely Gadsden Park and the massive Gadsden Consumerplex shopping mall.
GUILFORD
A west Northside residential neighborhood between Little Italy and Irishtown, Guilford is considered one of the nicest places to live in the city by
many people. It features a mix of brownstones and apartment buildings, detached housing, and shopping districts, and has a low crime rate.
HIGHLANDS
Home to the Governmental Center, Courthouse Plaza, and the headquarters of many of the city’s most important corporate residents, Highlands is the seat of power in Hudson City. As such, it’s also one of the wealthiest and safest neighborhoods, and features many elegant shops and an upscale nightlife. Many Hudsonites go to Highlands every evening to enjoy the attractions of the Hudson City Underground, a fi ve-by-fi ve block
underground shopping and entertainment area built from a portion of the old city that was built over following the 1895 Independence Day fire.
IRISHTOWN
Hudson City’s wealthiest and most influential residents live in the northwest corner of the city in Irishtown, a neighborhood where even the poorest
people are fabulously wealthy. Marked by its large, detached houses, well-manicured lawns and parks, and expensive shopping, it’s not a place where the average Hudsonite goes very often.
LAFAYETTE
If Freetown has any competition for the title of “worst, most dangerous area in Hudson City,” it’s Lafayette, the neighborhood immediately to its
east. Filled with poor people, the homeless, junkies, and gangs, it’s an unsafe place even for cops. The worst area is the Needle, an arrow-shaped strip of land decimated by years of street warfare, slumlord neglect, and drug addiction.
LATIN CITY
The southeasternmost corner of Hudson City, an area inhabited almost entirely by people of Hispanic descent, has been known as Latin City for
years. It’s a mix of residential areas and commercial areas, with a little industry that’s crept up from Southport for good measure. Hispanic street gangs, such as the Mexican Mafi a, Los Reyes, and Los Toros, sell drugs, run prostitutes, and commit other crimes here.
~LeMASTRE PARK
Th is enormous (2,000 acres, or about three square miles) park sits on the center of the northern bank of the Stewart River. Featuring dozens of miles of paths and trails, tennis courts, sports fi elds, a skate park, two nice restaurants, the Hudson City Zoo, the Brucato Bandshell, the New
Globe Th eater, and countless other attractions, it’s the perfect place for Hudsonites to go to relax and unwind. But that’s only during the daytime — at night it’s a dangerous place where muggers, rapists, and other predators lurk, and only stupid or foolishly brave citizens venture.
LITTLE ITALY
Th is neighborhood in the southwest corner of the Northside was settled a century ago by Italian immigrants, and as the name indicates it remains
mostly Italian today. Primarily residential, it’s known in the minds of most Hudsonites for two things: as a place with lots of wonderful restaurants;
and as the home of the infamous Mafia.
MINT RIDGE
Located on the western edge of ~LeMastre Park, the Mint Ridge neighborhood features a mix of residential and shopping districts. It has a moderate
street crime rate, thanks in large part to Mafi a dominance of the underworld, though Russian mobsters from Moscow West have begun competing
with the Mafi a here.
MOSCOW WEST
A tiny neighborhood nestled between the river and Mint Ridge, Moscow West has been the destination for immigrants from Russia and East ern Europe for nearly a hundred years. Although mostly residential, it does feature some industry and other businesses along the river. Th e Russian
Mafi a has a stranglehold on the underworld.
NORTH ELMVIEW
Th e northeast corner of the Southside is known as North Elmview. A poor, squalid, dangerous area, it’s best known for the Strip, which is the
center of Hudson City’s vice trade. Prostitution, strip clubs, and worse are rampant. Few people live here, and most of them are not exactly what
you'd call upstanding citizens; even fewer businesses (outside from those on the Strip) remain functional.
PIERPOINT
The southeastern tip of the Northside is known as Pierpoint. Like Bayside, it used to be home to a lot of shipping and related businesses. While the docks remain busy, other parts of the neighborhood have undergone “urban renewal” and become a fashionable address for urban professionals
and the like (many of whom work in nearby Bankhurst). Th e crime rate is moderate.
RED HILL
Th is working-class residential and light industrial neighborhood borders Elmview and North Elmview, and is similar to Elmview in most respects. It was once a German neighborhood, but today has no particular ethnic character. It has a slightly higher crime than Elmview rate due to spillover from the Strip.
RIVERSIDE HILLS
One of the largest neighborhoods in Hudson City, Riverside Hills is a long strip of the Southside stretching from the city’s western border to
Centre Street between Chinatown and Crown Point (to its north) and Freetown and Forsyth (to its south). Most of it is residential, with some
retail areas, but a few pockets of light industry or commercial buildings exist.
WORTHINGTON
Another large neighborhood, but this time on the Northside, Worthington occupies the area between the northern border, Guilford, Blackbridge, Highlands, and Eastwood. To the east it’s mostly commercial, with lots of skyscrapers and offi ce buildings; to the west, it’s more residential.
Th e Norward district between N. Truman Boulevard and Kurtland Boulevard has some light industry, trucking, and other businesses that take
advantage of proximity to the highway. Hudson City State University is located in the Burlington Heights and Somerset districts, and this, combined with HCU right on the border in Guilford, creates several areas of housing and businesses catering to students.

The Conquistadors
The Cathedral - The Base
Since the destruction of Stronghold (during the Battle of Detroit), the US has struggled with civil libertarians and the justice system to keep powerful superhuman criminals locked down. In April of 2004, Avrio Industries won the contract to build the new super-prison. After budget-cuts, political infighting and much discussion about what is the most humane way to house these criminals, the Mountain (located near Denver) is set to open in late 2007.
Once open, the facility will house 200 superhumans and has 25 Hot-Sleep units. In order to qualify for sentencing in this prison, the criminal must exhibit special powers that make a standard prison unable to hold him. The "special powers" rule may also be invoked for prisoners who have proven that a standard prison cannot hold him (escaping more than twice).
Set to open in March of 2008 is the Mountain's mental wing. It will have room for another 70 criminally insane superhumans and a specially trained staff of psychologists to work with this population.

LCG main site uses basic html codes. The most common codes used during regular game play are.
<b>bold</b>
<i>italics</i>
<font color=choice>enter in the first line or two of your new content</font>
For a more detailed list of code: http://lostcoastgaming.com/filter/tips
When I refer to color codes, these are the colors that will identify your character's new text. The GM will remove the color codes as she's sure everyone has seen them. As a general rule, color coding the first sentence or two of new text will be fine, however if you add something way up in a game file, make the entire addition in your character's color to help it jump out as new.
The code format to use color is <font color=choice> insert your text </font>.

The create content link is located in the left hand tool bar at LCG. The links in this section takes you to the critical tools available to you that will enhance your game play experience.
The two most important are Create Journal Entry and Create Image. Another valuable tool in this section is Create Note.
Journal Entry - This is where you post your character fiction pieces, interludes, joint posts, diaries, blogs, journals, letters, etc. You will be encouraged and rewarded in this game for any interest you take posting pieces outside of the game file. Please include TCQ in front of your title so that when it is published to the front page for everyone to read, we know that it is associated with the Conquistador game. An example would look like this. TCQ: Ophilia's Day Off.
Create Image - This is where you upload pictures of your character and anything else that will enhance our understanding of your character. When you upload your picture, choose the Conquistador Image Gallery, and the correct sub folder. Then it will appear in our shared Conquistadors Image Gallery.
Notes - This is something that is private by default. You can use it to write your game moves in, keep notes on IC knowledge, NPCs, whatever you want. The notes can only be seen by you, and you can add, edit and delete as they lose their usefulness.
