How to Set Up Game Structures at LCG

The order here is critical to follow, so please try to go down the list in order. After each step, make sure you've saved the changes you've made where applicable.

  1. Get "game pretext" from GM -- see the "Start a Game" file onsite for the information each GM should provide.
  2. Set up the forum board with the Game name under "Ongoing Campaigns."
  3. Set up the Image Gallery. Go to Admin >> Content Management >> Image Galleries and select "Add gallery" from the tabs.
  4. Go to Admin >> Content Management >> Categories to "add terms" to the Games List. The "Term Name" should be the Game name or a reasonable abbreviation.
  5. Go to Admin >> User Management >> Roles to create the GM's "role." See the abbreviations already in the list and choose one for the new game that seems appropriate and distinct.
  6. After creation, scroll down to GMFwD and right-click on "edit permissions" to bring this page up in a new tab or window.
  7. Click on "edit permissions" for your newest GM role to bring up that page in the current tab or window. Use the permissions for the GMFwD role as a template for the permissions for your new GM role by clicking back and forth between the windows. Double-check, then save.
  8. Repeat steps 5, 6, and 7 for the Player role, using PlayerFwD as your template.
  9. Go to Admin >> User Management >> Taxonomy Access: Permissions and here is where it gets complicated. I recommend you bring up another GM role to use as a template, then replicate the permissions you see there, changing the "View" "Update" and "Delete" settings as appropriate for the new role. Take your time, there are dozens of little effing buttons to click and they all have to be done one at a time, for the most part.
  10. Repeat this for the new Player role.
  11. Assign your new GM to his or her new role by clicking thru to Admin >> User Management >> Users, finding the new GM's user name in the list, clicking "Edit," then scrolling down to the list of User Roles and assigning them the one relating to their new game.
  12. Repeat the last step for every player the new GM recruits, choosing for them the appropriate player role.
  13. Upload the new campaign document to the /files/ directory, then go to Admin >> Site building >> Menus. Scroll down to the "Game Info Files" menu, then click "Add item." Enter title, description and path as directed, then save.

That's the process -- I can now get it done "in little less than half an hour" but that's because I've had practice. Take your time, remember to breathe and save your changes when you're done with each page.
