The Guardians: Attack of the 80 foot Gorilla -- Meanwhile on the Astral Plane

Koslov's picture

After a few seconds of disorientation, she finds herself inside the zoo; but there are no animals and most of the plant life is dark and sinister looking. It also looks *way* more like the African jungle than it does Denver: a single mountain is visible in the background (instead of the rockies).

Shimmer blinked her eyes twice to orient herself to the sudden change in her surroundings. "Holy...sh...wow. This isn't real...this is just an illusion..." Taking a deep breath she let it out slowly and was about to center herself when a voice stopped her dead in her tracks.

Several meters from her stands a dark form. "You! Tell them all to leave. This is my kingdom now!" The voice is forceful and nearly overpowering in her mind. It is not a human voice; or if it is, the accented English is like nothing she has heard before.

"I will call back my forces when the last human has left us alone." He says again. "You did this to us! And now, you will not put us back. Will NOT!"

To Shimmer, the voice sounds very much like a child's tantrum.

"Whoa. Easy now." Anna cooed, much as if she were speaking to a spooked horse. The power of the being surrounded her and made her heart pound with fear. Her absolute most solid belief about her own powers was that mentalists were not meant to fight alone. ...and now here she was part of a team and yet she managed to find herself all alone against a friggin astral mental demon throwing a tantrum.

A part of her was frustrated by the situation until in occurred to her that running into infantile beasts was pretty much what she did as an officer of the peace. "I'm very sorry that you're upset." Her voice started with the slightest quiver and then swelled into her normal confident tone.

"I understand that you're upset..." That's what you do with children wasn't it... acknowledge, acknowledge, acknowledge. Dylan always responded well to that, not that he was a child but still. "...and I would be happy to help you with your problem. BUT." Her voice was firm and bold. "You must stop hurting people immediately or I CAN NOT help you. I want to help you. I do not want you to be upset. I need you to stop your animals from attacking the people. Can you do that?"

“Who *I* hurt?” Came the reply. “I just here – and man do this to me. Now, entire community in my head. I tell them – run the people out! Bring this place back just for us. This place is wrong – but it is the only home we have. And you not take it away from us.”

The voice did soften to her tone – and in place of the dark form, she began to see a smaller gorilla – probably still a young child. But, his head was horribly distended and bulbous. Pulsing veins were visible around his thick, gorilla neck. He seemed both more monstrous and more human that a gorilla should. Anna was certain that it was a male.

The sight of the gorilla made Anna's stomach churn with sympathy. Oh dear God. The form could sense the compassion flowing from her as she took two timid steps towards him.

The other odd detail was in his hand. He was holding a syringe-gun; not waving it about – just holding it as if it were nothing (not even a tool).

"What is that?" She gestured towards the syringe almost forgetting the greater danger that raged at the zoo.

The misshapen gorilla looked at the gun and shrugged, "This what human use on me -- and some others. Stupid human, should not have left it where I could find it. I kill him with it. I very smart; him - heh - he dead dumb."

Anna winced involuntarily at his murderous admission. "Can you please speak to the animals and ask them to stop chasing the humans? ...and then I can do whatever is in my power to help you." Shimmer's eyes brimmed with sincerity.

"How I trust you?" The gorilla said, "I stop my ... army ... give you time to get people out. But, I no stop them all. Not all listen to me."

"You can trust me. You were the one that brought me to you, you must feel that you can trust me." Shimmer knew that she was grasping at straws but there was little else to do. Even though she could sense that this gorilla man was powerful she was also getting the feeling that he wasn't terribly intelligent.

"I appreciate you calling back the animals. I understand that not all of them will listen to you, but anything that you can do will help. Can you take me to this man? The one that hurt you? Were there any others or just the one that shot you with that gun?" She gestured towards the syringe gun and took two more timid steps towards the beast.

”I do that.” He said, “I call back those who listen to me. Give you 5 minutes to get people out. Then, you leave us in peace. This place belong to us now!”

Shimmer bit her bottom lip in irritation at the beasts reply. There was a certain level of frustration in dealing with the childish oddity, not the least of which was her concern that the whole encounter was a mind game. Despite her concern her reply was quick and didn't hint at the irritation she felt inside. "Thank you! ...that is very kind of you. ...but...you have me trapped here. I can not relay your message to my team. Can you take me back and show me the man that hurt you? That way I can make sure that we get anyone else that might be here to hurt you."

He looked surprised when she said that, then nodded. She awoke in the chaos of the outside world. AEGIS agents had her in a soft chair in the back of their command center. Outside she could see the giant gorilla throwing cars and beating his chest. She was no worse for the wear.

Shimmer blinked a few times as she processed her new location. The AEGIS agents looked at her with concern and she gave them a small smile to let them know that she was alright. "I just had a psychic encounter with an altered ape. I think that someone has injected some of these animals with..." Her voice trailed off realizing that she didn't have enough time to explain her suspicions. "I've got a date with a primate."

As Anna lifted into the air towards the primate's habitat she activated her communicator. "This is Shimmer." It was a bit awkward using the communicator and she wasn't exactly sure what proper protocol was when using it. "I've had a psychic encounter with one of the primates. I believe it was a young Gorilla that had been injected with some mind altering chemical. The Gorilla wants us to retreat and is going to call off the animals that will listen to him. We should have a few minutes to clear out the civilians if they listen to his call. I'm going to try to find his habitat and see if I can find out who is responsible for this."

ooc: I'm not sure where to insert this in the main move. Please feel free to place it for me. She will fly towards the likely spot that the gorilla from her encounter was, using mind scan to locate any villains that might still be in the area.

OOC: China - feel free to interact as much as you want with the agents -- I am moving you to the rest of the group and the primary game move will continue there.
